Balbhojan Seva
Balbhojan Seva was initiated when a group of compassionate individuals came together with a shared intention: to give back to society. We were inspired by the philosophy that sustainability, social equality, and community welfare are collective responsibilities, and we cannot expect governments to solve them alone.
Fueled with enthusiasm, our founders gave shape to their dream, and Balbhojan Seva was born. Over the years, we have evolved into a sustainable social institution—committed to doing real, impactful work on the ground and ensuring that our society becomes more inclusive in the process of bringing change.
On our journey, we have continually innovated—whether it is choosing to work directly on the ground through a service-delivery approach, adopting transparent management principles, or promoting the concept of civic-driven change. We chose to take the road less traveled, and that has made all the difference!
Our Vision
-
To act as a catalyst in bringing sustainable change to the lives of underprivileged children and families through a life-cycle approach to development.
-
To enable civil society across the world to engage proactively in the change process through the philosophy of civic-driven change.
-
To adopt the highest standards of governance and emerge as a knowledge-driven, innovative, and scalable development institution.
Mission
Balbhojan Seva aims to empower underprivileged children, youth, and women through relevant education, proper nutrition, innovative healthcare, and market-focused livelihood programs.
Our mission is to deploy the best possible methodologies to achieve an ideal Social Return on Investment (SROI) while practicing and promoting good governance. We strive to link the competitiveness of the corporate sector with social development initiatives, and to sensitize privileged children, youth, and citizens to promote Civic-Driven Change.
Philosophy of Change
While our primary focus as a development organization is to work on the ground to bring positive change to the lives of less privileged children and families, we make equal efforts to sustain this change. We do this by sensitizing and engaging the privileged masses towards their social responsibility.
Rather than remaining restricted to a single community, Balbhojan Seva has adopted the principle of Civic-Driven Change. We aim to achieve sustainable development in a wider social context by making civil society an active partner in all our welfare initiatives.
The Lifecycle Approach
We believe that holistic care— encompassing education, health, and nutrition—is both the means and the end to a better life. It is the means because it empowers individuals to eventually earn a livelihood, and the end because it increases awareness on a range of issues—from appropriate social behavior to understanding one’s rights.
However, while working on the ground, we realized that child welfare cannot be achieved in isolation without ensuring the well-being of the whole family. A child will not go to school if they are sick or hungry. If a child’s parents are afflicted with health or financial problems, the child might drop out to start earning instead. Unless the mother is healthy and empowered, the child cannot be either. Everything is interlinked.
Today, children remain at the center of all we do. But through our lifecycle approach, our programs have evolved to also address the critical needs of the children’s families and surrounding communities.
How We Work
1. Social Venture Philanthropy (SVP) SVP is an innovative model based on the business concept of venture capital. Under this model, Balbhojan Seva identifies and implements development projects through credible community-based organizations. We handhold and build the capacities of these organizations, focusing on achieving scalability and sustainability, creating a culture of leadership, and inculcating a deep sense of accountability.
2. Outreach Under the Outreach model, Balbhojan Seva implements development interventions directly. When working in remote or highly hazardous areas, we realized that intensive on-ground intervention is required—often beyond the capacity of smaller community-based organizations. Therefore, we directly implement these projects, liaising with local community stakeholders for a better social return on investment.
Why Trust Us?
Credibility and accountability have always been the benchmarks for Balbhojan Seva. We achieve this through the promotion of principles of good governance in all our processes and practices. We maintain a strict, multi-tier audit and evaluation mechanism to ensure the maximum impact of every investment and complete transparency in the utilization of our funds.
